Effects of spirulina (Arthrospira platensis) as feed additive of steers consuming high energy diets: growth performance and nutrient digestion

چکیده
Two trials were performed in order to evaluate the effects of spirulina platensis (SP) supplemented (0, 0.5, and 1.0% diet DM) high-energy on nutrient digestion growth-performance feedlot cattle. The dose each treatment was top dressed mixed directly with basal at time feeding. In Trial 1, six cannulated Holstein steers (281±2 kg) used a replicated 3×3 Latin square experiment. Supplemental SP did not affect ruminal total tract digestion. Ruminal microbial efficiency (quadratic component, P=0.06), nitrogen (linear P=0.10) pH (linear, P=0.06) tended decrease supplementation, without VFA or estimated methane production. 2, 108 medium-frame crossbred (182±1 211-d study growth performance. feed intake, but linearly (P=0.09) weight gain, gain efficiency, dietary net energy. (P=0.08) increase steer morbidity. Effects supplementation carcass characteristics non-appreciable, (P=0.06) longissimus muscle area. It is concluded that low level (up 1% diet) appreciably digestion, fermentation, health cattle fed diet.

Effects of microelements (Fe, Cu, Zn) on growth and pigment contents of Arthrospira (Spirulina) platensis
A laboratory experiment was conducted to assess the bioaccumulation of microelements Fe 2+, Cu 2+, Zn 2+ and their effects on the growth and pigment contents of Spirulina platensis in Zarrouk’s media. The mentioned metals concentrations enhanced separately to tenfold of the Zarrouk’s content. The results indicated no differences in the dry weights for the different medias (p>0.05). A rapid incr...

Three experiments were conducted to evaluate the in ̄uence of an algae derived feed additive, Spirulina platensis (SP), on weanling pig performance. In all experiments, pigs were blocked by weight and allotted to one of four (experiments 1 and 3) or six (Experiment 2) dietary treatments. Standard diets and feeding regimens were implemented in all three experiments and SP replaced soybean meal on...
متن کاملAntioxidant effects of Spirulina platensis (Arthrospira platensis) on cyclophosphamide-induced testicular injury in rats
Cyclophosphamide (CP) is known to reduce fertility. The protective effects of Spirulina plantesis (SP) against CP-induced testicular toxicity were investigated. Male Wistar rats were categorized into eight groups (n = 7). Four groups of rats were administered CP at a dose of 5 mg in 5 mL distilled water kg-1 per day orally. Two of these groups were received SP (500 and 1000 ...
متن کاملRole of pH on antioxidants production by Spirulina (Arthrospira) platensis
Algae can tolerate a broad range of growing conditions but extreme conditions may lead to the generation of highly dangerous reactive oxygen species (ROS), which may cause the deterioration of cell metabolism and damage cellular components. The antioxidants produced by algae alleviate the harmful effects of ROS. While the enhancement of antioxidant production in blue green algae under stress ha...
متن کاملBioethanol Production by Carbohydrate-Enriched Biomass of Arthrospira (Spirulina) platensis
In the present study the potential of bioethanol production using carbohydrate-enriched biomass of the cyanobacterium Arthrospira platensis was studied. For the saccharification of the carbohydrate-enriched biomass, four acids (H2SO4, HNO3, HCl and H3PO4) were investigated. Each acid were used at four concentrations, 2.5 N, 1 N, 0.5 N and 0.25 N, and for each acid concentration the saccharifica...
